Today Da Beat went past a good example of boxification (read here for an explanation). This building is situated at the edge of a particular industrious area right next to a canal. The canal makes for a lovely walk, but you may want to look the other way only.
The cool thing about these relatively large boxes is the way the light reflects off the walls. When our judgement of size is fooled, the light fall-off gives a certain unreal effect in the same way that highly detailed model railway pictures do. Everything seems consciously correct, yet you realise subconsciously that it doesn’t fully add up. It creates the same kind of mystery that claire obscure achieves in paintings of that genre.
Mind you, Da Beat isn’t suddenly so confused as to think himself the photography equivalent of Rembrandt, in case you wondered.
